Oilfield Wastewater Treatment

Worldwide gas and oil production increase the levels of hazardous wastewater. The EPA, fueled by public pressure, is using the authority granted through the Clean Water Act to study and regulate wastewater throughout the oil & gas industry. ALAR Water Treatment provides energy companies with a full line of industrial wastewater pretreatment, chemical and mechanical dewatering filter solutions for oilfields and other oil & gas related applications.

A wide variety of industries performing various oilfield and natural gas operations are regulated by effluent guidelines that cover wastewater discharge. The wastewater generated by energy companies is often discharged directly to surface waters or indirectly to surface water through Publicly Operated Treatment Works (POTW’s). Other disposal options include Class II injection wells or water recycling.

Environmental regulatory agencies established pretreatment programs in order for municipalities to perform permitting, administrative and enforcement tasks. These programs are designed to protect the POTW’s infrastructure and reduce toxic pollutant levels of wastewater discharged by the oil and gas industry into municipal sewer systems and the environment.

The characteristics of oil and gas wastewater vary considerably. To comply with effluent guidelines, an industrial facility needs to review the category of wastewater pollutants discharged, the wastewater treatment technologies, and management techniques used to control these discharges (including landfill disposal).

ALAR Water Treatment is a direct-manufacturer of chemical treatment and mechanical dewatering equipment for the Oil & Gas Industry. ALAR’s industrial wastewater technology can integrate into an operation as a complete system or retrofit to existing machinery. These custom-built systems specialize in meeting environmental discharge and disposal compliance regulations for: Metals, Hydrocarbons, Oil & Grease (FOG), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and pH.

ALAR Water Treatment designs and builds proven wastewater treatment systems that produce cost effective results and environmental compliance. ALAR provides access to a full line of continuous flow or batch chemical pretreatment, mechanical liquid-solid separation, and sludge dewatering equipment. Let ALAR guide your industrial facility in determining which method offers the best solution.

ALAR manufactures industrial wastewater treatment equipment for worldwide distribution.

Oil & gas production wastewater is a moving target; no two waste streams are alike.  ALAR understands the difference and uses its chemical, engineering and technological expertise to deliver results that work.

Responsible industrial wastewater management makes the difference between regulatory compliance and non-compliance.  ALAR offers a variety of mechanical and chemical pretreatment systems that allow customers to make an educated decision.

The Auto-Vac® is a self-cleaning dewatering filter that separates water from suspended solids, generating one-micron clean water; and producing dry, manageable solids for disposal. The Auto-Vac® is a rotary vacuum drum precoat filter that utilizes a filter aid media of Perlite or Diatomaceous Earth. As water is vacuumed through the filter media, the solids accumulate on the drum’s surface. A variable speed knife advances, removing the solids from the surface.

Most oilfield total disposal recovery operations involve several steps, of which the Auto-Vac® is part of the whole process. The primary role of the Auto-Vac® is sludge dewatering and filtering out Total Suspended Solids (TSS).

One or several of the steps listed below are typically used prior to or after the Auto-Vac® filter:

Oil Removal

Clarification/ Solids Settling

Heavy Metal Removal

Biological Control

TDS Reduction

Desalinization

These processes vary based upon the need to recycle, reuse or meet regulatory discharge requirements. They also vary due to the region; each site has its own challenges requiring different aspects of treatment.

ALAR Provides Wastewater Equipment Solutions for the Oil & Gas Industry:

Energy companies require the best available technology to achieve compliance by meeting the standard limit category of regulated effluent discharge pollutants. Some wastewater applications include:

  • Centrifuge Effluent Polishing and Suspended Solids Removal
  • Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) Sludge Dewatering
  • Settling Tank Bottom Wastewater Filtration
  • Produced and Flowback Water
  • Water-Based-Fluids from Oilfield Operations

...Along with industrial discharge from several operations associated with oil and gas

The ALAR Engineering Department designs each system to meet the customer's build-to specifications. ALAR begins with stock layouts, and customizes the auxiliary equipment according to the customer's specifications.
