Treating & Filtering Food & Dairy Wastewater

Mar 07, 2017

The solution for food and dairy wastewater is dependent upon: Location/Regulations; Volume of Wastewater; Percent Solid Content by Weight; and Disposal Issues (TSS, FOG, pH, COD, TDS).

Disposal costs plays a major role in the process. Some food and diary companies are allowed to discharge into the city sewer for a fee, others are allowed to use evaporation ponds, and some can use their wastewater for irrigation, compost/fertilizer or livestock feed (such as hogs).

Alar provides liquid/solid separation equipment for F&D industries that cannot discharge into the city sewer and pay high disposal costs. The Alar systems specialize in reducing TSS, FOG, Insoluble BOD along with pH Adjustment/Neutralization.

Dissolved sugars - solids or biological/organic contaminants would require additional treatment once the suspended solids and oil & grease are removed.

For large volumes and low percent soilds, Alar recommends a Dissolved Air Flotation System (DAF).

The benefits of using an Alar wastewater treatment system for the Food & Dairy Industry:

  • Reduce Disposal/Hauling Costs
  • Reduce Surcharges for TSS, BOD and FOG
  • Meet City Sewer/Municipal Discharge Regulations
  • Dewatered Solids that typically do not require further drying
